Donuts recipe
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
½ tsp salt
½ cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
2 large eggs
¼ cup melted butter
½ tsp vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Chocolate or glaze for coating (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture:
In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
2. Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
Add the yeast mixture, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough:
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
4. First Rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
5. Roll Out the Dough:
Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles. Transfer it to a floured surface and roll it out to about ½ inch thickness.
6. Cut the Donuts:
Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small) to cut out donut shapes.
7. Second Rise:
Place the donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cover them. Let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
8. Heat the Oil:
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
9. Fry the Donuts:
Carefully drop the donuts into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry for about 2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined tray to drain excess oil.
10. Optional Coating:
Once cooled, you can dust the donuts with powdered sugar or dip them in chocolate or glaze for extra flavor.
11. Serve:
Serve the donuts fresh, and enjoy your homemade treat!
