Chinnamon Rolls Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm milk (110°F or 45°C)
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
1 large egg
For the Filling:
1/2 cup softened butter
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Icing:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top, stir, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
2. Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, salt, and vanilla extract. Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the bowl.
Stir in the egg and gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
3. Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
4. First Rise
Grease a bowl and place the dough inside. Cover it with a clean towel and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
5. Prepare the Filling
While the dough rises, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl until well combined.
6. Roll Out the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it onto a floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 16x12 inches.
7. Add the Filling
Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Roll the dough tightly, starting from one of the longer sides.
8. Cut and Arrange the Rolls
Cut the rolled dough into 12 even pieces. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking pan, leaving a little space between each roll.
9. Second Rise
Cover the pan with a clean towel and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes, until they’ve puffed up.
10. Bake the Rolls
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re golden brown.
11. Prepare the Icing
While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl to make the icing.
12. Glaze and Serve
Once the cinnamon rolls are baked, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Drizzle the icing over the rolls while they are still warm.
13. Enjoy!
Serve the cinnamon rolls warm for a delicious treat!
